Dorigati (TRENTO)
The Dorigati family have been growing and making wines at Mezzocorona in the province of Trento for five generations. The winery was founded in 1858 and grapes come from their own vineyards and from a number of small specialist growers who have always brought their grapes here following a long standing ‘honour’ arrangement. Vineyards are situated in the foothills of the Mezzocorona mountain and in the Piana Rotaliana (piana = valley floor). The alluvial cone of the Noce torrent where it joins the River Adige was the scene of major reclamation works between 1848 and 1854 commissioned by the Austrian Emperors, Ferdinand and Franz Joseph. Collaborator on the works was Luigi Dorigati, founder of this winery! At any rate, this alluvial cone known as the Piana Rotagliana is a location of immense suitability as a vineyard, consisting of silts, pebbles, gravel and sand containing diverse minerals washed down from the high mountains, varying greatly in granularity and perfectly stratified.
