Contrasts are not the least of the things which abound in this largest of all Mediterranean islands. Ancient island - modern wine industry. Reputation for sweet Moscato and Marsala - actual emphasis now on lighter dryer wines. Traditionally big volume low cost wines - now lower volume but big quality.
Perhaps it took the introduction of international varieties - Cabernet, Syrah, Merlot, etc. - to rekindle interest in the autocthonous - native - vines of the island but that's exactly what has happened and the world should celebrate!
