Montefalco Rosso DOC Riserva 2000 - Umbria

Description

Organically cultivated, unfiltered, unfined. Vineyards are situated on Colline di Montefalco at altitude 400 m, with east-south-west exposures on soil. Vines support is by cordone speranato at 3,000 plants per hectare, yielding 65 to 70 quintali. The 2000 season was deemed well balanced with temperatures near normal. Vendemmia took place during 10th – 20th October with manual gathering and separation of grapes from stalks, before transport to the azienda in small stainless steel containers. Fermentation on the grape skins lasted 33 days followed by maturation for 18 months in stainless steel, then 12 months in oak barrels of 20 hl. 9,210 bottles of 750 ml resulted from the 2000 vendemmia, individually numbered. Drinkable from 2004 but displays ageing ability to 2013 to 2018.

Quite distinctive aroma of fresh apples with juniper and vanilla. Maturing well, very fine grained tannins, nice acidity, mid palate sensation of fresh lime.

Deep ruby red, full bodied, matured, Sangiovese 50% Sagrantino 25% Montepulciano 25%, ABV 13.5%, serve 18 to 20oC
