Piemonte Italy
"Foot of the mountains"
The name means ‘foot of the mountains’ and quite a big flat foot it is with the famous River Po running through the middle and hemmed in at the edges by 'real' mountains.
Weather wise, summer is usually warm and dry but autumn and winter are frequently cool and foggy, even downright cold. Nevertheless, Piemonte holds the primacy for number of registered wine denominations, achieving this distinction through great attention to quality of the minor and major DOCs alike.
There are 3 macro areas for wines in Piemonte: (1) Monferrato (2) Langhe & Roero (3) the wine districts of Northerm Piemonte
