Emilia-Romagna Italy

Emilia Romagna consists of two distinct 'sectors', Emilia to the west and Romagna to the east, more or less coinciding at the capital Bologna. Emilia's prosperous small cities are strung out like jewels along the ancient via Emilia; Piacenza, Parma, Modena, all world famous for wine, food, fast cars, history, the arts...in fact, the leading technologies from every age, not least the modern era. On the other side of Bologna, food capital of the world, Romagna's hills south of Imola, Forli, Cesena and Rimini are noted for the nativa white Albana and - great favourite - red Sangiovese wines.

The Colli Piacentini area to the west of Emilia is adjacent to the Oltrepò Pavese area of Lombardia which itself is virtually continuous with Piemonte's famous Asti and Alba districts.   All are vine growing areas of the utmost reputation but not all are equally recognised in UK; that's a pity
